Bukittinggi launches Jenjang 1,000 as new tourist attraction

Bukittinggi, a major tourist destination, has a new tourist attraction called Jenjang 1,000 (1,000 Steps) located on Apil Hill.

Bukittinggi Public Works Office head Eldi Efra said in Bukittinggi on Thursday that Jenjang 1,000 had grown in popularity after undergoing a facelift.

He explained that the tourist attraction used to be neglected without adequate supporting facilities and was not easily reachable.

The revitalization of the tourist attraction was carried out by the West Sumatra Public Works Office at a cost of Rp 15 billion (US$ 1,309,929) earmarked from the state budget.

"The revitalization of Jenjang 1,000, which is equipped with swimming pools and spacious parks, is expected to become a main tourist attraction," said Bukittinggi Deputy Mayor Harma Zaldi, as quoted by kompas.com.

Jenjang 1,000 is naturally beautiful with its meandering pathways along nearby cliffs. Locals used to go to the site to fetch clean water from Ngarai Sianok (Sianok Canyon).

Visitors can enjoy the scenic views of Mount Merapi and Mt. Singgalang as well interact with apes. (meh)
