P

ublicly listed company Adaro Energi has teamed up with a subsidiary of Temasek, Sembawang Corp., to compete in the tender for the largest power plant project in Indonesia, the PLTGU (combined-cycle power plant) Java 1.

The power plant, with a capacity of 1,600 megawatts (MW), is estimated to cost around US$2 billion in investment, including for the construction of the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU).

Adaro Energi president director Garibaldi “Boy” Tohir said Adaro, through its subsidiary Adaro Power, was preparing the necessary documents for the tender.

"The process is ongoing, but PLN has officially launched the tender, which will be opened up in a month or two. We are very serious about working on it [the PLTGU Java 1]," Boy said as reported by kontan.co.id on Monday in Jakarta.

To win the project, Adaro will have to compete with several contestants including the Medco Energi International-Mitsui and Co. consortium, the Rukun Raharja-Mitsubishi-PJB consortium and the state-owned energy consortium Pertamina-Marubeni.

PLN procurement director Supangkat Iwan Santoso said the PLTGU Java 1 project was not being offered through an integrated tender scheme where the winner fully controlled the project, including the gas supply.

"Now, the winning consortium will only have to build the infrastructure without bothering with the gas supply. We [PLN] will provide the gas," he said. (ags)
