ata from 2015 show capacity building in Indonesia has improved, as marked by the country's Human Development Index (IPM) of 69.55 for that year, a 0.65-point increase from 68.90 in 2014.
Central Statistics Agency (BPS) head Suryamin said although experiencing improvement the country’s human development still had a "moderate" status, same as the previous year. He also said Indonesia's IPM in 2015 only grew by 0.94 percent when compared to 2014.
The IPM is calculated by three basic factors, namely longevity of life, knowledge and standard of living.
To improve the index, Suryamin recommended the government to accelerate infrastructure development and increase job creation in order to improve people's income and purchasing power.
"If incomes increased, [people] will have more money to send their children to school and to have a more healthy life," Suryamin said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In addition to increasing job creation, the government could also boost people's purchasing power through various social assistance funds (bansos).
"For the level of our country, the bansos will [positively] affect other indicators, such as the ability of people to send their children to higher education, as well as health," he added.
