tate-owned electricity firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will increase the electricity tariff for households and industry clients after the Idul Fitri holidays on the back of a higher Indonesian Crude Price (ICP).

PLN president director Sofyan Basir said the average increase would only be Rp 8 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for 12 classes of customers.

"However, when compared on an annual basis, the new prices will still be lower from July 2015,” he said on Wednesday on the sidelines of an open house party at the private residence of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno in Jakarta.

Sofyan said a higher ICP assumption in the revised 2016 state budget had triggered the increase.

The ICP assumption was revised to US$40 per barrel from the previous $35 per barrel.

International benchmarks for oil prices have also been showing an upward trend.

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) benchmark has risen by an average of 25 percent to $46.28 per barrel from the beginning of this year, while Brent has climbed 28 percent to $47.69 per barrel, according to data from Bloomberg. (tas)
