he Bekasi immigration office in West Java arrested 21 Indian citizens for failing to show proper immigration documents on Thursday night.
The people were arrested during a raid at an apartment on Jl. Ahmad Yani in South Bekasi.
“They come to Indonesia [and work] as salesmen to improve their life,” Bekasi Immigration head Edy Ekoputranto said on Wednesday as quoted by wartakotalive.com.
Edy said immigration officers actually held in custody a total of 46 people from various countries. However, only the 21 Indians have been found guilty of lacking the proper documents. The other 25 are still being investigated.
The immigration head also said that some of the Indians came to Indonesia on tourist visas and their purpose for coming here was to work. Meanwhile, some others could not show their passports.
“They said their passports were being held by a third party,” he said without elaborating futher. “They came here three weeks ago via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.”
The Indians are being investigated and Edy said that if they were found guilty of violating immigration laws, they would be deported to their country.
Bekasi Immigration carried out the raid on the apartment after receiving complaints from nearby residents that many of the foreigners in the apartment stayed in just one room.
