rosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Mardani Ali Sera was appointed on Thursday to lead the campaign team of Jakarta gubernatorial hopefuls pairing Anies-Sandiaga for the upcoming election.

The decision was made after a meeting on Thursday attended by representatives of the Gerindra Party and the PKS, as well as Anies Baswedan, Sandiaga Uno and Boy Sadikin, the former chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDI-P) Jakarta chapter who had recently quit the party.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, Boy was also appointed to lead a team of volunteers to help the official campaign team in doing its job.

"After the meeting, we agreed to submit the list of campaign team members to the Jakarta General Election Commission on Thursday," Mardani said at Boy's house in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Mardani, who was initially nominated to become deputy gubernatorial candidate for Sandiaga, said the campaign team members had signed an integrity pact to uphold transparency and integrity to the public, as well as not to use religious and racial issues during the campaign.

"As what Anies said, the election shall be a festival of ideas, works and a beauty contest. We don't want to degrade or insult other candidates," Mardani added.

Volunteers have a very important role as they act as the frontline of the campaign team, said Mardani. (bbn)
