akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat left the capital on Monday to visit founding father and first president Sukarno's grave in the East Java town of Blitar.

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is Sukarno’s daughter, reportedly accompanied the gubernatorial election candidates.

"I once told Pak Djarot that I've never visited Bung Karno's grave. We always talk about Pancasila (the official state philosophy), so I wanted to see it," Ahok said at City Hall on Monday.

Ahok and Djarot have planned to visit the grave since P-DIP endorsed their ticket. Later, Megawati asked Ahok and Djarot to go together to Blitar, Ahok said.

Ahok said that he would return to Jakarta on Monday evening. (bbn)
