he Jakarta Police are investigating reports of resistance faced by Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat during a recent campaign stop in Petamburan, Central Jakarta. Both Djarot and his running mate governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama have faced public protests during campaign stops in the past few months.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said Monday that the police had received a report from a resident named Tasri on Dec. 3. Tasri reported that a person identified as Rudy had tried to prevent Djarot from campaigning on Jl. Jati Pinggir, Petamburan, on Nov. 25.

"We have received the report regarding the campaign disruption. We will question 12 witnesses, including Pak Djarot, today," Argo said.

He said the police would immediately investigate the case so it could be brought to trial soon.

Djarot arrived at the Jakarta Police headquarters at 2:40 p.m. to testify as a witness in the case.

Previously, police also investigated a campaign disruption faced by Djarot in Jl. Kembangan Utara, West Jakarta, in mid-November.

Argo said that as part of the case, Naman S., 52, would soon face trial as the prosecutor had declared his case dossier complete.

Ahok and Djarot are running for reelection against former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and former culture and education minister Anies Baswedan. Ahok and Djarot’s campaign has been marred by a number of protests since he was accused of blasphemy.
