resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will spend his second day in Iran in a series of meetings with the country’s leaders and officials in hopes to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
On Wednesday morning, the President will meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for a tête-à-tête at the Sa’dabad Palace's Jomhouri building in Tehran. The two leaders will oversee the signing of a number of memorandum of understandings (MoUs) before concluding the meeting with a state lunch.
After the meeting, President Jokowi is scheduled to meet Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei in two separate meetings at the Parliament building and the Office of the Supreme Leader, respectively.

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, who is accompanying President Jokowi in his state visit, said the visit to the oil-rich country was meant to improve bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
“Iran [and Indonesia] have huge potential in the oil and gas sector,” she said in a press release, adding that Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan was ready to discuss potential cooperation with his Iranian counterpart as a follow-up to the state visit.
President Jokowi and his entourage arrived in Tehran on Tuesday at 4:20 p.m. local time after concluding a state visit in India. He was scheduled to return to Indonesia on Wednesday evening. (hwa)
