he National Police will heighten security measures at churches throughout the country in the approach to Christmas in order to prevent any attacks aimed at Christian communities.
National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told the press that the police would deploy officers to every church throughout the country in order to guard against terrorist attacks.
“Our officers will directly coordinate with church organizers to discuss security details needed,” Rikwanto said on the sidelines of a ceremony at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta.
“We will determine how to impose strict screening at all churches during services in order to prevent any intruders bringing dangerous items inside,” he added.
According to Rikwanto, the National Police will play an active role in approaching all churches to discuss security measures as the terrorist threat across the country has been raised.
While the National Police are still hunting the mastermind of a failed plot to bomb the State Palace early last week, police personnel in Bali on Tuesday found and safely detonated a low-explosive device found inside a bag in the popular tourist district of Ubud in Gianyar regency. (dmr)
