11 victims of Jakarta boat accident released from hospital

leven passengers who were on board the Zahro Express ferry, which caught fire in Thousand Islands waters on Sunday, have been allowed to leave hospital, while hospital personnel are striving to identify the people killed in the incident.
Bagus Panjie W, the communications coordinator of the Jakarta Health Agency’s Emergency Ambulance Unit, said 31 passengers from the Zahro Express had been rushed to Atmajaya Hospital in Pluit, North Jakarta, to receive medical treatment after the ferry they were on had caught fire on its way to Tidung Island on Sunday. Two people died while being treated in hospital.
“Meanwhile, 11 patients have returned to their homes across Jakarta and its surrounding areas,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday. These areas included Bintaro, Cikarang, and Pamulang in Jakarta and Bogor in West Java.

The KM Zahro Express was carrying hundreds of people who wanted to celebrate the New Year on Tidung Island, Thousand Islands, when it departed from Muara Angke Port, North Jakarta, on Sunday. The boat caught fire before sinking, killing 23 passengers and leaving 17 injured, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The agency further said that 194 passengers had survived the incident, while 17 others were reportedly still missing.
In addition to Atmajaya Hospital, four other hospitals, namely Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD), Budi Asih General Hospital (RSUD), Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) and Pertamina Hospital, had also provided medical treatment to the victims of the incident.
The authorities are still investigating the incident. (ebf)
