resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo praised PSSI chairman Lt. Gen. Edy Rahmayadi as he had successfully held a tournament and hoped that it would encourage Indonesian soccer to rise again.

Jokowi mentioned this in his speech after watching the final match of the President's Cup at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, West Java, on Sunday.

“We hope we can embrace this moment as the rise of Indonesian soccer,” Jokowi said as quoted by kompas.com. He also expressed his acknowledgment of PSSI’s improvement in organizing the tournament and hoped that the management would keep getting better in the future.

After the tournament, Jokowi handed over the President's Cup to Arema FC, the champion of the tournament, after a 5-1 win over Pusamania Borneo FC in the final match.

Jokowi is committed in developing national soccer. In a Cabinet meeting on Jan. 25 he highlighted four goals that have to be achieved to rebuild Indonesian soccer.  (hol/wit)
