Officials from Thousand Islands regency have been urged to soon hold an auction to procure boats to transport corpses.

“We are reminding them to soon hold it. However, they have to ensure that the design of the boats has earned an approval from the Transportation Ministry,” Subekti of North Jakarta and Thousand Islands’ Goods and Services Procurement Unit (UPPBJ) said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Wednesday.

He said that procuring the boats could take up to six months, thus the relevant stakeholders needed to take quick action.

As previously reported, the Jakarta administration has intended to provide two boats to transport corpses in the regency.

The boats will transport corpses from various inhabited islands in the regency to a public cemetery on Karya Island.

People in the regency have been longing for the boats as currently regular passenger boats are used to transport corpses. (fac)
