t least 121 candidates for open commissioner posts within the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will take part in a selection process starting May 2.
The selection team in charge of recruitment announced Tuesday that the 121 candidates were selected out of 200 individuals that applied for seven commissioner posts at the national human rights body.
The selected candidates are set to first take a written test on May 2. Those who pass the test will proceed with a screening with the House of Representatives' Commission III overseeing law and human rights.
“We will submit a list of finalists to the President in August,” selection team head Jimly Asshidiqie said, adding the screening process with Commission III lawmakers would take place after the list of finalists is submitted.
The selected 121 candidates comprise 28 advocates, 27 academics, 21 NGO activists, 16 former government officials, seven journalists, three former lawmakers and three retired police and military officers. Seven of the current 13 Komnas HAM commissioners have applied for a second term.
A single term for Komnas HAM commissioners lasts five years.
