undreds of Jakarta citizens flocked to City Hall on Monday morning as Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama returned to his office after a month of mandatory leave to campaign for his re-election in the capital’s runoff election slated for April 19.
Most of the people had come to complain about problems they hoped Ahok could help solve. Others had come only to take pictures with the incumbent governor.
“I arrived here at around 6.30 a.m. and have been waiting for Ahok for an hour only to take some photos with him. He is such a charismatic person,” Ellen Kakunsi, 40, told The Jakarta Post.

She said she had met Ahok in person before, also at City Hall, to complain about her husband’s problem, whose certificate of employment had been seized by the company that hired him.
“The problem was solved about a month ago. I came here two months ago to complain about the issue, and Ahok asked his assistant to address it,” said Ellen, who lives in Semper, North Jakarta.
