Former Maritime Security Board (Bakamla) deputy chairman Eko Susilo Hadi has been indicted on bribery charges that carry a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison upon conviction.
Eko's trial started at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday.
Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors have charged him under a 2001 anticorruption law for allegedly receiving four separate bribes in the amounts of US$78,500, $10,000, €10,000 and SG$100,000 in connection with the procurement of a satellite monitoring system by the Bakamla.
Eko allegedly received the illicit money from Fahmi Darmawansyah, the owner of PT Melati Technofo Indonesia (MTI), which won the tender for the Rp 222 billion (US$16.7 million) project, and Fahmi’s subordinates Muhammad Adami Okta and Hardy Stefanus.
Fahmi, Adami and Hardy have also been indicted in the case.
The military police named Commodore Bambang Udoyono a suspect for allegedly receiving kickback money from the company.
The court heard about the supposed role of Bakamla chief Vice Adm. Arie Soedewo, who allegedly told Eko about a 7.5 percent kickback from PT MTI earmarked for Bakamla, 2 percent of which would be handed over first as a down payment.

The prosecutors have indicted Eko under Article 12 (b) of the 2001 law that, in addition to the maximum punishment of 20 years imprisonment, would levy Rp 1 billion in fines upon conviction and Article 11 of the same law, which carries a maximum imprisonment of five years and Rp 250 billion in fines upon conviction as a subsidiary indictment.
Eko said he will not refute the indictment. (mrc/bbs)
