and acquisition for the Indonesian-Japanese deep-sea port project in Patimban, West Java, is expected to start before the end of the year, West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan has said.

He said the land was estimated to cost about Rp 700 billion (US$52.6 million). "If there is a state budget revision, we would like to propose funds for the Patimban [project] land acquisition," he said following a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

The $3 billion port is designed to have a container capacity of 1.5 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) once it is partly completed in 2019 and 7.5 million TEUs by 2027, which is around half the capacity of Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok, the country’s busiest port.

It will be located about 70 kilometers from the Karawang Industrial Estate and Bekasi in West Java, where many Japanese industrial firms, particularly automotive manufacturers, operate. (bbn)
