he Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) will run a trial of Transjabodetabek Premium buses this month to ease severe congestion on the Cikampek toll road.
The commuter buses, which are equipped with free wi-fi, reclining seats and phone charging ports, are set to serve commuters traveling to and from Bekasi, West Java, and the capital from Sept. 7 to 20.
In the trial, however, the buses will make only three morning trips from Mega Mall, Bekasi, to Senayan, Central Jakarta, with buses departing at between 5:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
In the evening, buses will make three trips from Senayan to Mega Mall, departing from Senayan at between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
“In this trial run, Transjabodetabek Premium buses will have a priority and have a police escort,” said BPTJ head Bambang Prihartono in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that police escorts would accompany the buses until the Transjabodetabek dedicated-lane on the Cikampek toll road was fully established.
The Cikampek toll road is often severely congested due to several infrastructure projects in its vicinity.
