ore than 300 police officers from across West Kalimantan province joined a four-day journalism training program in a bid to boost their abilities to disseminate information to the public in the fast-growing digital media environment.
“Police officers must be able to collect information around them and process it into journalistic products that can be distributed to the public,” West Kalimantan Police chief Insp. Gen. Erwin Triwanto said in a press statement made available on Sunday.
He added the police must continuously adapt to developments in information technology.
The four-day training program was held in the province’s capital of Pontianak from Sept. 25 to 28.

During the training, the officers were not only taught about reporting and writing news, but also photography and graphic design.
“Today, with our smartphones, we can do a lot of things that can help enhance the police’s service to the people,” Erwin said.
The training session on making infographics would be also useful in countering fake news and hoaxes, he added. (bbs)
