he Jakarta Police have named five men suspects over the death of an unidentified man who was accused of stealing Rp 1.8 million (US$130) from a donation box at a mosque in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Saturday morning.

The five suspects were identified only as MS, SP, AR, SY and AK.

A police official, Adj. Comr. Rulian Sauri, said a preliminary investigation led to the role of five out of 11 individuals being questioned in the deadly vigilante attack.

“They beat the alleged thief to death,” Rulian said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Sunday.

The incident took place at 5.30 a.m. after dawn prayer. The mosque's guard, Suryadi, reportedly saw the perpetrator breaking into the donation box using a screwdriver and putting the money into a plastic bag. The alleged thief was later beaten to death by some of the residents from the surrounding area. The victim’s body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta. (vny/dmr)
