Talk of The Week: TETO hosts Taiwan Expo in Jakarta

The Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia recently hosted a three-day exhibition called Taiwan Expo 2018 in Jakarta to showcase its world-class products, services and technology.

“The expo is not only showcasing products, services and information but also creating platforms for Taiwan and Indonesia with further cooperation and interaction,” TETO said in a press release.

According to the release, 230 Taiwanese exhibitors showcased 4,500 top Taiwanese products and services during the expo, which was held from March 29 to 31 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta. More than 20,000 people visited the expo. During the expo, which was held for the second time in Jakarta, business deals involving a combined total of US$64 million were clinched.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) chairman James CF Huang was also present at the expo. TAITRA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and MNC Group for a long-term partnership and cooperation in industrial and Smart City developments.

In an effort to raise awareness about Taiwan, TETO launched its Facebook and Instagram social media accounts on March 26.

The Taiwan Expo was held just four days after Indonesia, through its Indonesian Economic and Trade Office, hosted its first-ever Indonesian Week 2018 in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, to showcase Indonesia’s top products, tourist sites, fashion and culture.

More than 300,000 Indonesians currently live in Taiwan. Most of them are migrant workers and the rest are students or housewives who are married to Taiwanese people.
