t least three people died and nine others are missing after landslides hit two regencies in North Sumatra.
The bodies of two victims — Rosdiana Nainggolan and Nia Marpaung — were found in Halado village, Toba Samosir, while another one, G.Rumahorbo, was found in Parapat subdistrict, Simalungun.
Toba Samosir Disaster Mitigation Agency head Herbeth Pasaribu said the landslide struck the village at 11 p.m. on Wednesday after heavy rain. He said the victims were inside their houses when it happened.
“The bodies were retrieved from the buried houses. Another two residents were injured while nine are still missing,” Herbert said on Thursday.
He added that a joint team was still searching for the missing nine but difficult terrain was hampering the search.
Girsang Sipangan Bolon district secretary Doni Sinaga G. Rumahorbo, who is a resident of Parapat, said, “[The victim] was trapped in the bathroom when the landslide occurred. His wife and three children survived.”
