Three people have been arrested for allegedly hiding drugs in the laboratory of a West Jakarta school
hree people have been arrested for allegedly hiding drugs in the laboratory of a West Jakarta school.
Two of the suspects have been identified only as DL, 29, and CP, 30, siblings who once studied at the school and now work there.
“Several packs of crystal methamphetamine were hidden in a room inside a laboratory. The room was a storage space but is now being used as a bedroom,” Kembangan Police chief Comr. Joko Handono said on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.
He did not reveal the name of the school.
DL and CP had been living on campus along with their parents, both of whom are contract workers for the school.
“They work there, so no wonder the school management was not suspicious of their activities,” Joko added.
Police said the siblings were couriers for a drug syndicate operating out of a prison.
They were allegedly responsible for transporting drugs from another person identified as LK.
Investigators are working to determine whether the suspects also distributed drugs to students at the school.
The pair was arrested in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Thursday, after the police detained a fourth man, AN.
They were charged under Article 114 of Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics and Article 62 of Law No. 5/1997 on psychotropic substances, which carry a maximum punishment of life in prison and a fine of Rp 10 billion (US$709,000) upon conviction.
