Indonesian shooter Sarah Ayu Tamaela stood out from the crowd as she notched up wins in the 2019 CZ Extreme Euro Open shooting competition in the Czech Republic from June 20 to 22.

In the tournament, which was hosted by World Extreme Group, Sarah finished 26th in the overall result in the open category among 144 contestants. During the competition, she dominated the lady division as well as winning the Shoot Off Super Six battle.

In the Super Six, Sarah made the best score against second-placed Lynda Turnbull of the United States and third-placed Czech Katka Sustrova.

In her Instagram account @sarahtml, the 20-year-old describes her journey at the Czech tournament as “tough” as she recorded a disappointing result in the first day.

“CZ EEO 2019, you were a tough mental game for me after my [expletive] show shooting on Day 1. Very grateful to be able to pull through on the next two days and very fortunate to be ranked first in the lady open category,” posted Sarah on her account.

Indonesia had eight shooters in the Czech tournament, which offered classic, open, standard, production, production optics and revolver divisions. Each division also featured a junior category (Under-21), super junior (U-16), lady, senior (over 50) and super senior (over 60) categories.

Aside from Sarah, the Indonesian squad also deployed Agungwaluya Yoshuara, Chintia Fajar Nevelona Leo Afandi, Iskak Budisiswanto, Jamin Trenggono, Richard Hendarmo, Yo Vigor and Zaenal Arief Wangsanegara.

Some 1,200 practical shooters from 50 countries went to the Czech Republic to compete in the tournament, which was categorized in level 3. “A level 3 tournament is a regional competition that is held almost every week in many countries and is attended by international participants,” Sarah told The Jakarta Post via text message on Tuesday.

Sarah competed in the Czech showdown as part of her journey toward the 2019 World Series Cup, which requires contestants to take part in three mandatory tournaments.

To qualify for the world series’ overall counting, shooters must compete in two of the three mandatories, namely the Extreme Euro Open, Eurasia Extreme Open in Russia in July and Asia Pacific Extreme Open in Thailand in December.

In the Thailand mandatory, the organizers will collect all points earned by competitors in deciding the season’s champions.

Last year, Sarah finished third in the overall standings and was the best shooter in the lady division. Sarah, who started practicing shooting seriously three years ago, won the lady open category in the 2019 Thailand National Handgun Championship as well as the open team division and overall standings in the 2019 Iskandar Shoot in Malaysia.

This year, Sarah will skip the Eurasia Extreme due to a conflicting schedule, but will compete in the Thailand’s Asia Pacific Extreme Open — among a total of 14 tournaments in which she plans to compete in the second half of the year. On top of that, Sarah aims to do her best in the triennial World Shoot in 2020, which will take place in Thailand.

“After the world shoot, I plan to go back to college. [I am still considering] continuing my studies in Canada or the US,” said Sarah, who went to Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana, in the US.
