It turned out it was a nationwide incident as customers took to social media to complain to the state-owned lender.
Later in the afternoon, in an official statement, Bank Mandiri corporate secretary Rohan Hafas apologized for the glitch and ensured that everything had returned to normal including Mandiri online services, such as internet banking, SMS banking, ATM and Electronic Data Capture services.
“Once again we apologize for the inconvenience. Now our service has returned to normal and we will always protect our customers' account security,” he said.
In a previous statement, Rohan said the glitches happened when the lender was in the process of relocating data from the core system to the backup system.
Rohan said the process was carried out routinely every day.
“However, this time there was an error affecting the balance data of 10 percent of Bank Mandiri customers,” he said. He ensured that the customers' balances would return to normal soon.
