ourism ministry's archipelago tourism marketing development deputy, Esthy Reko Astuti recently traveled to East Nusa Tenggara to attend the closing ceremony of Tour de Flores on July 19.

Prior to that, Esthy made time to visit PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Marina commercial zone development in Labuan Bajo.

“This is part of the acceleration program for 10 priority destinations in Labuan Bajo. Only with the spirit of Indonesia Incorporated can Labuan Bajo be improved and ready to welcome overseas tourists. I hope everything goes well and will be done by December 2018,” Esthy said.

“The ASPD Marina will be the docking place for tourist ships like yachts or phinisi boats and become the main entrance gate for overseas tourists who travel by sea. To date, tourist ships still have to share access with container ships and it’s hard to be managed professionally. This is one of the government’s efforts to push for a better development in the port area of Labuan Bajo,” Esthy added.

The project itself is a Rp 400 billion (US$30.02 million) investment and had its groundbreaking ceremony in April 2017. It is built as a joint venture between three companies, namely state-owned Seaport operator ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Pertamina’s hotel operator PT Patra Jasa and state-owned construction firm PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP).

PT ASDP Indonesia will be the major shareholder with 51 percent while PT Patra Jasa and PT Pembangunan Perumahan will cover 25 percent and 24 percent respectively.

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry president director Faik Fahmi said that the development of the commercial zone is in line with the company’s road map called RE-ASDP consisting of  Re-formulation of Business Foundation (2016), Acceleration of Commercial (2017), Services to The Nation (2018), Drive to Excellent (2019) and Performance to The Best (2020).

“This year is the year of commercial acceleration, we hope ASPD can contribute more to the country, build connectivity without relying on the government and improve national tourism and makes it on par with the world standard. This is why we would like to develop Labuan Bajo,” said Faik.
