ritish School Jakarta (BSJ) and Manchester City have finally announced the opening of the Manchester City Football School at British School Jakarta, also known as MCFS@BSJ.
“We are very enthusiastic to start our football school and bring the world-class football coaching experience to Indonesia’s promising football talents by partnering with Manchester City Football Club,” expressed BSJ principal David Butcher.
The football program within the BSJ offers a unique football education, based on the curriculum and methodologies used by the coach team of Manchester City and will be delivered by a full-time Manchester City coach who is permanently placed at MCFS@BSJ.
BSJ students will participate in this program through the school’s Physical and Health Education (PHE) curriculum, as well as the extensive Extracurricular Activities (ECA). However, MCFS@BSJ is also opening the door to those who are not enrolled in the school, opening registration for children under 8 or under 10 (U8 and U10).
“The Manchester City philosophy can help nurture young boys and girls of all ages to develop their football skills. Whether you are a complete beginner of advanced player, we will make sure that your technical and tactical abilities are nurtured in our environment. We also want you to feel safe and have a lot of fun as you are learning and improving as a player,” said Jorgina Busquets as the managing director of Football Education & Recreation for City Football Group.
She announced that Chris McCarthy, who has been a part of the coaching team at Manchester City for over 10 years, will teach the first round of cohorts.
“Now, more than ever coming out of the pandemic, we need to create special opportunities for the young children of Indonesia through the medium of sport and in this case football,” David explained. He also pointed out the importance of well-being for students, and how this is the key element of well-being education going forward.
Classes for non-BSJ students will start this month and they will run every Tuesday for children aged 7 - 8 and every Thursday for children aged 9 - 10. The inaugural term will run for 13 sessions on a once-a-week basis.
Due to the pandemic, the spots have been limited to 24 non-BSJ children as of now, with strict COVID-19 protocols to be applied for the safety of all.
