ndonesia's aviation market is approaching its pre-pandemic level of activity faster than the international market, according to figures presented by senior vice president of Boeing Company and president of Boeing Global Brendan Nelson.

“In Indonesia, we expect to be back at the pre-pandemic level [of 2019] by the first quarter of next year, [which compares with] Q3 [quarter three] next year for the international market,” Nelson told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Boeing forecasts a global market value of US$7.2 trillion for new aircraft deliveries as it sees the global fleet increase by 80 percent through 2041 compared to the pre-pandemic level.

Despite its soaring cost, demand for air travel has made a strong recovery across a number of regions, led by demand for domestic and short-haul regional routes, while international traffic is gaining momentum as coronavirus-related movement restrictions have been lifted.

“The domestic [flight] demand throughout the world is back to 89 percent of the pre-COVID level, and in some [domestic] markets it is already returning to its pre-COVID level. International [demand] is returning to 70 percent,” said Nelson.
