TransNusa Airlines has launched a new direct flight from Ambon to Sorong to support economic and tourism growth in eastern Indonesia.
rivately owned TransNusa Airlines and state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I have launched a new direct flight linking Ambon, Maluku, with Sorong, Southwest Papua, to boost economic development and tourism.
General manager of Angkasa Pura I’s Pattimura International Airport, Shively Sanssouci, said the first flight on the new route between the provincial capitals took off on Thursday.
TransNusa Airlines' inaugural flight on the Ambon-Sorong route used a COMAC ARJ21-700 aircraft with flight numbers 8B-291 and 8B-292.
"We are grateful for the attention and enthusiasm shown by the community toward the inaugural Ambon-Sorong [TransNusa] flight,” Shively said in Ambon on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
“We hope that the traffic at Pattimura International Airport in Ambon will continue rising in the future."
Shively added that the airport authorities were working to improve connectivity between Ambon and other cities, aiming to boost tourism in Maluku province especially in Ambon.
Flight 8B-291 leaves Sorong’s Domine Eduard Osok Airport at 9 a.m. local time and arrives in Ambon at 10 a.m.
