Growing from a bakery founded in 1996 but now specializing in baked snacks, J&C Cookies is preparing for an initial public offering next year, fueled by a burning drive to scale up.
“We’ve always had an ambition to go public,” Jodi Janitra, CEO of J&C Cookies, told The Jakarta Post on Nov. 16, reminiscing about his late father’s idea to launch an initial public offering (IPO) as soon as the family business gained traction.
J&C Cookies traces its origins to a bakery that Jodi’s parents founded in 1996. It has weathered multiple storms since, some caused by economic hardship and others emerging from within.
J&C Cookies’ ability to transform has been a matter of survival for the family business, which now specializes in seasonal holiday products it markets year-round.
Nestled in the heart of Bandung in West Java, J&C Cookies has carved out a niche in the local market for its baked goods, but it remains driven by a burning spirit to scale up.
Products of tradition
The brand’s tagline “Homemade cookies” struck a nostalgic chord with customers, Jodi explained, though the company’s products range beyond the typical idea of what might constitute a “cookie”.
As such, they include popular confections typically gifted during the holiday seasons Indonesia, like naastart (pineapple tarts) and kaastengel (cheese stick cookies), sold in jars or plastic containers.
