chneider Electric, a digital transformation leader in energy management and automation, has introduced the 'Adopt a Tree' program in collaboration with vocational high schools (SMK) to promote a greener school environment.
Adopt a Tree is part of Schneider Electric Foundation’s VolunteerIn program, which aims to provide a platform for employees to take action to contribute to society.
The launch of the program was marked by the planting of tree seedlings at SMK 15 state vocational high school in Bekasi, West Java, which involved the active participation of Schneider Electric Indonesia employees as well as teachers and students. Ratri Wuryandari, head of CSR Schneider Electric for East Asia and Japan, representing Schneider Electric Indonesia symbolically handed over approximately 50 tree seedlings to Dra. Supriatin, principal of SMK 15 Bekasi.
Cluster President of Schneider Electric Indonesia & Timor Leste Roberto Rossi said in a statement that sustainability is at the core of the company’s goals, culture and business in building a sustainable and inclusive world.
“We are the first company to measure and monitor the impact of our business on the community (people), the environment (planet) and the economy (profit) since 2005. Last year, we again strengthened our sustainability commitments through the Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) Program 2021-2025 that refers to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on six long-term commitments, one of which is the empowerment of local communities,” he said.
Ratri Wuryandari, Schneider Electric's Head of CSR for East Asia & Japan, said that in carrying out its commitment to empowering local communities, Schneider Electric always encourages the involvement of its staff and employees.
“Our VolunteerIn program facilitates our staff and employees to contribute to the community either as a group or individually. Some of the initiatives carried out include beach cleaning, and being a guest teacher at vocational schools and universities. The Adopt a Tree program will further increase the variety of social activities for our employees, strengthening their motivation and commitment to become responsible citizens in realizing sustainability for all.
Schneider Electric's sustainability initiatives have been recognized by a number of ESG rating agencies. In 2020, the company obtained a CDP Climate Change A rating for the tenth consecutive year, and obtained a Low Risk rating from Sustainalytics. Schneider Electric was also recognized as the world's most sustainable corporation in 2021 by Corporate Knights in January 2021.
