Improving competence: PNM provides ecoprint batik training to customers

P

T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) continues to encourage its customers to undergo training as part of its efforts to support the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Most recently, it provided a group study tour on Feb. 20-21 to Batik Puspita Mekar Gallery in Laweyan district of Surakarta (Solo), Central Java. Involving 12 PNM Mekaar customers from various regions, the study tour aimed to enhance their knowledge and skills in ecoprint batik.

Ecoprint batik uses natural dyes derived from tannins that are applied to the leaves, roots and stems of selected plants, which are then imprinted onto fabric. The fabric is then boiled to preserve the impressions, producing batik decorated with the shapes of the natural materials.

The ecoprint batik study tour aligns with PNM’s mission to provide three types of capital to its customers: financial capital for PNM Mekaar customers, social capital for business expansion and acceleration through PNM’s business networks and synergies, and intellectual capital through mentoring programs, including training and study tours, as well as information and knowledge exchange.

"Alhamdulillah [Praise be to God]”, “Masya Allah [God willing]”, and “What an extraordinary event facilitated by PNM”, were among the testimonies from the PNM Mekaar customers who attended the ecoprint batik study tour.

“As hosts, we are delighted and proud to be part of this activity,” said Ananto Seno, PNM Solo Branch Manager.

“The [ecoprint batik] study tour reflects PNM's commitment as an institution empowering MSMEs that not only provides financial capital, but also intellectual and social capital. The enthusiasm shown by [Batik Puspita Mekar Gallery] and the participants eliminated any fatigue felt by either participants or organizers,” he continued.

“Hopefully, the knowledge participants gained can be developed in their respective regions and most importantly, enhance networking among participants and resource persons. Thank you to all parties who participated in this event. May more PNM Mekaar customers benefit from our Business Capacity Development (PKU) program,” Anton said.

PNM, has been conducting study tours through its PKU program since 2022. Themed #CariTauLangkahBaru (Get to know new steps), over 200 customers have taken part in special training programs designed for their particular business sector.

Iryanti Setiyono shared her experience from taking part in the study tour.

"Before the training, I was still learning about dyes for batik and ecoprint. During the training, I learned about the difference between good dyes and the proper production method for ecoprinting.

“After the training, I started applying the knowledge gained from the study tour, and intend to develop my business by combining ecoprint and traditional batik to offer more variety and attract more customers," she said.

PNM continues to provide study tours with an aim to encourage customers to develop their businesses. Its hope is that customers can use their newfound knowledge and skills to develop their businesses effectively in an empowered way.

PNM is a financing and mentoring institution for underprivileged Indonesian women who are active players in the ultra-micro business sector. PNM provides not only business capital but also various training programs so its customers can improve the quality of their products.

PNM has around 15.2 million customers across the archipelago.
