The three vice presidential candidates will take part in an election debate on Friday evening that will be led by moderators with substantial experience of previous elections.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has announced two moderators and 11 panelists for the debate that will focus on the economy, finance, trade, tax, investment and infrastructure, with a slight technical change from the inaugural debate featuring only presidential candidates last week.
Friday’s debate will involve Muhaimin Iskandar, the National Awakening Party (PKB) chair who is running with presidential candidate Anies Baswedan; Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is the running mate to frontrunner Prabowo Subianto; and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, the running mate of Ganjar Pranowo.
The KPU will host the debate at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) at 7 p.m. on Friday, as opposed to using the poll body’s headquarters in Central Jakarta as the venue, as was the case in the first debate.
Friday’s debate is the second of the five-debate series before the simultaneous presidential and legislative elections on Feb. 14, 2024. The last three debates will be held on Jan. 7, Jan. 21 and Feb. 4 next year.
More experience
The debate will be moderated by Trans Corp journalist Alfito Deannova and Kompas TV news anchor Liviana Cherlisa.
