View all search resultsioneer airline Susi Air opened new routes linking tourism spot Karimunjawa in Jepara regency, Central Java, with Semarang and Yogyakarta starting on Friday.
The airline uses the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan with a capacity of 12 passengers. Karimunjawa is a top tourism destination in Central Java with seven islands known for their white sand beaches. The area also has coral reefs which attract divers to visit.
Previously, visitors could only take boats from Semarang or Jepara to reach Karimunjawa. There was a flight connecting Semarang with Karimunjawa several years ago but it had since been discontinued.
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi acknowledged the initiative was not just a regular flight but the start of easy access to the province’s top tourism destination.
“This ease of transportation is a move to grow the economy, whether in tourism, investment and other public activities,” he said when attending the first flight.
He also hoped that Susi Air would open new routes to other regions in Central Java where there were pioneer airports already, such as Blora, Cilacap and Purbalingga.
Meanwhile, Susi Air owner Susi Pudjiastuti said she was ready to support connectivity with outer islands in Central Java as well as providing flights to pioneer airports in the province.
