More Chinese businesses will invest in Indonesia, especially Central Java province, with the designation of Batang Industropolis as a special economic zone.

hinese businesses will invest in Central Java as Indonesia has become one of the main investment destinations for Chinese businesses in the past few years, Chinese Ambassador to Jakarta Wang Lutong said on Wednesday.  

Wang led a delegations of consultants, investors such as the Chinese chambers of commerce and industry, bank representatives, the investment vice president and embassy staff during a courtesy call with Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi on Wednesday ahead of a ceremony designating Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KIT) as a special economic zone (SEZ) on Thursday.

“There will be more agreements to be achieved,” Wang said.

“We have reached an agreement especially on the agenda officiating Batang SEZ, we will bring more investors to Indonesia, especially Central Java province.”

Wang, who has visited the province twice, recognized there had been thousands of projects with Chinese investment in the past few years, as Indonesia has become one of the main investment destinations for Chinese businesses.

During the meeting with Wang, Luthfi said he expected the Chinese government to encourage businesses to invest in three important projects in Central Java, covering integrated waste management, the construction of an international hospital and the construction of a giant sea wall on the northern coast.
