outh Korean entertainment agency S. M. Entertainment plans to hold an Indonesian audition to recruit members for its new boy group, Neo Culture Technology (NCT).

The plan was revealed by the company’s founder, Lee Soo-man, during the Indonesia-Korea Business Summit in South Jakarta on Tuesday. Lee said auditions would be held in Indonesia as well as in the other parts of Asia. Selected participants would be chosen as the group’s Asian members and would receive training from the company.

“The NCT audition is our way to introduce the culture technology concept to Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the world,” Lee said, as quoted by kompas.com. Lee did not specify a date for the audition.

NCT is a boy band project without set limits to the number of members or their nationality. Currently, the group is comprised of members from South Korea, China, Japan and Thailand. It began its first activity as a six-member band named NCT-U in April 2016. Since then, it has engaged in promotional activities in Korea through two units, NCT 127 and NCT Dream.

At the business summit, Lee also expressed his intention to create a joint venture in Indonesia. “I believe we must create the world’s No. 1 celebrities and content in Asia through regional cooperation,” he said, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency. Lee invited Indonesia to take part in the creation of what he called the "Hollywood of the East”. (mas/asw)
