The 22nd installment of the National Qasidah Art Festival is currently underway in Padang, West Sumatra, until Nov. 25.
Featuring a total of 1,767 participants from 32 provinces, the qasidah (a traditional Islamic music performance) festival is divided into four competition categories, namely Classic Qasidah for teenagers and adults; Qasidah Collaboration; Star Vocalist for children, teenagers and adults and a Muslim/Muslimah Fashion Show.
Antara news agency reported that the National Qasidah Art Festival opened on Sunday with a mass dance performance titled, “Greeting between Sunset and Evening prayers.”

The dance was choreographed by West Sumatra native Eri Mefri and involved 300 dancers from four dance schools and two vocational schools in Padang.
Eri said the dance told of the common habit of forgetting the Isha prayer (night time daily prayer).
In addition to qasidah competitions, Padang Deputy Mayor Mahyeldi said the event also promoted Padang halal tourism to the participants from different regions across the archipelago. (jes/asw)
