Music legend David Foster to perform at newly transformed historic site

enowned Canadian musician David Foster is set to perform at the Dyandra Convention Center in Surabaya on March 22 and De Tjolomadoe, the former site of the Colomadu sugar mill, in Karanganyar, Central Java, on March 24 as part of the Hitman: David Foster and Friends concert series.
Singers Anggun C. Sasmi and Brian McKnight, as well as local singers, will also perform.
Tickets are categorized into four types – Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Festival – with prices ranging from Rp 600,000 to Rp 5,000,000.

“The response has been really good. Tickets for several types have already been sold out,” said Rajawali Indonesia Communication CEO Anas Alimi on Wednesday.
In Karanganyar, the concert will take place in the convention hall of De Tjolomadoe. The site, formerly a sugar mill, was recently transformed into a world-class music hall.
A revitalization project is being carried out by PT Sinergi Colomadu, a consortium of state-owned companies, namely engineering companies PT PP (Persero) Tbk and PT PP Properti Tbk, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur Prambanan Ratu Boko (Persero), which is entrusted with taking care of Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko temple, and property developer PT Jasa Marga Properti.
“The music legend’s concert will mark the end of the revitalization’s first phase. We proudly present a world-class concert in an exotic place,” said Anas.
Seeing a concert at De Tjolomadoe will be an experience like no other, Anas said, as the revitalization project did not alter the original state of the mill. During the concert, spectators will also be able to tour the mill, which is home to 150-year-old sugarcane extraction machines.
“At the David Foster concert, there will also be an official announcement that De Tjolomadoe is open to the public. This is a new [tourist] destination in Karanganyar, a historic and valuable cultural heritage [site],” said PT PP Persero Tbk. president director Tumiyana.

The Colomadu sugar mill reached its height in 1928. In 1946, after Indonesia’s independence, state plantation companies took over operations of the site from the Mangkunegaran royal Javanese family. It ceased operations in 1998.
The revitalization’s first phase started on April 8, 2017 on a nine-hectare site. Almost all aspects of the building are preserved.
Before being revitalized, several art events were held in the area, such as the Kereta Kencana World Music Festival and multimedia art performance Fabriek Fikr by artist Sardono W. Kusumo. (wen)
