Tik Tok vows to nurture local creators, prevent negative content

The video-sharing service has reportedly become accessible again on Tuesday after being blocked by the Communications and Information Ministry on July 3.

Tik Tok Indonesia wants to design more programs for content creators as part of its long-term commitment in Indonesia.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the company has been actively coordinating with the Indonesian government, local communities and other parties to create ideas and programs that focus on digital development, women empowerment, child protection and cybercrime.

"Indonesia is a very important market for Tik Tok. Our presence in this country is a long-term one. We are committed to helping decrease digital discrepancy and facilitating important issues for the development of the internet industry in Indonesia," said Tik Tok Indonesia CEO Nan Zhang in a statement.

As part of this move, Tik Tok is set to collaborate with Information and Communication Technology Watch (ICT Watch) in hosting a series of online and offline programs that aim to improve digital literacy and promote safe and educational internet content, especially among youths. It also has been in talks with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) to create programs that aim to provide a safe, healthy and educational online experience for the young generation.

The video-sharing service has become accessible again on Tuesday after being blocked by the Communications and Information Ministry on July 3, as reported by kompas.com.

The management team of Tik Tok has reportedly visited the ministry's offices a day after the blockage, stating they were ready to comply with regulations in the country and increase its services to create positive effects. 

It also said that it would remove negative content on its platform and ensure that such content did not exist in the future; employ 200 people to monitor negative content and increase the minimum user age from 12 to 16 years. (kes)
