F

ollowing the earthquake and tsunami that hit Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on Friday, Google Indonesia has launched an open course web application Google Person Finder to help people locate their family and friends affected by the natural disaster.

Available in Indonesian, the app filters visitors by asking them whether they are looking for or have information about someone.

If you are searching for someone, you can type their name and Google will provide several profiles, which will include their full names, photos and status. The data is only available for a certain period of time.

After selecting a specific profile, you can view some information, including who created the profile and the date it was created. Options to delete the profile or extend it for 60 days are also available.

Moreover, people can input information about themselves or other people into the database by filling out a form. The identification form consists of name, contact information, address, description, photo and status, which explains the person’s condition and last-seen location.

Remember that the data in Google Person Finder can be utilized by the public and Google does not verify its accuracy.

Google Person Finder has been used during various crises or disasters, including Hurricane Maria last year and the Kerala floods in August this year. (wir/kes)
