How about giving life to inanimate objects through stop motion animation when our mobility is restricted? All it takes is an internet connection, Zoom and a doll or two.
Looking to upskill creatively while staying at home this weekend?
Well, look no further! Komunitas Salihara Arts Center, in collaboration with Arcolabs, is offering "Diam-diam Bergerak" (Moving quietly) on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. Jakarta time. The Zoom workshop will teach you how to create stop motion animation using basic materials you already have at home.
Led by Alfi Zachkyelle, the founder of Kampoong Monster Studio, the three-hour workshop is open to the public starting from Rp 50,000 (US$3.54).
To join, simply register online, and download the Stop Motion Studio app on Play Store or the App Store. You should also have ready one or two “animatable” objects, like an action figure or a doll.
Alfi said in a statement that stop motion was an effective and efficient technique for creating animated film in a limited space.
Some stop motion animated films you might have seen include Frankenweenie (2012), Coraline (2009), Chicken Run (2000), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and of course, the beloved claymation British comedy franchise, Wallace and Gromit (A Grand Day Out, 1989), and its TV spin-off, Shaun the Sheep (2007).
The KomunitasSalihara Arts Center is also running a discussion series called “Zoom In: Seni Rupa Indonesia & Internasionalisme Baru” through Nov. 25. (wir/wng)
