They say there is a child in all of us, no matter how old you are. That is probably why all around the world, theme parks and entertainment centers are always packed with people of all ages. Especially during the school holiday, it is no wonder these places top the destination list for families.
Being one of Asia's most desirable destinations with a growing choice of attractions, Singapore has become a magnet for holiday-goers. So just what is available for families here? There are plenty of attractions to enjoy. Escape Theme Park (www.escapethemepark.com.sg) for instance. Located in downtown east, Pasir Ris, Escape Theme Park is Singapore's largest outdoor theme park and a paradise for those seeking an adrenalin rush. Try the Wet & Wild, a five-tier water slide and splash your way down. At the Revolution, you will spin into a dizzying bliss. There are also other fun rides such as Bumper Boats and the Ferris Wheel. Like most theme parks, the place is packed with funfair-style games.
What if you want the kids to have fun and an educational experience at the same time? Bring the kids along to the Singapore Science Centre (www.science.edu.sg), at 15 Science Centre Road. It's interactive and challenging with activities that will shift your brain into high gear. If you have more time to spare, take them to Omni-Theatre, and watch an IMAX movie and explore the Kinetic Garden, Asia's first outdoor interactive garden of science, which features interactive exhibits.
For a winter holiday experience in the equatorial tropics, wrap yourself up in your woolens and head off to Snow City(www.snowcity.com.sg). Here, you have the option of snow-tubing, skiing or snowboarding or simply de-stress with a snowball fight at a freezing 5 degrees Celsius below zero.
Still not adventurous enough? Go to Clarke Quay and have a mind-blowing time with G-MAX Reverse Bungee & GX-5 Xtreme Swing (www.gmax.com.sg). So what is reverse jumping? Imagine for a moment that you are a stone on a huge slingshot. You won't fly off into oblivion of course, but will be strapped tightly onto a steel-reinforced capsule and hurled 60 meters upwards between two 36-metre high towers at 200 km per hour! OK, take a deep breath and save the curiosity for now. You can also take a ride on the GX-5 Xtreme Swing and enjoy the adrenalin rush as you "fly" out over the Singapore river.
With a lot of entertainment options for families, the list doesn't stop there of course. There are other places to visit such as Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Underwater World and of course, the famous Sentosa Island (www.sentosa.com.sg).
Once you step into this popular playground, the first ride you should try is the Sky Tower. Going up slowly in a circular motion in a comfortable air-conditioned plate-shaped cabin, reach the top and can enjoy the view of Singapore, Sentosa, Southern Islands and on a clear day, even Malaysia and some Indonesian islands. Nearby is the Sky Ride, where you sit and relax while being taken up high and around to enjoy a panoramic view of the island. In the mood to forget how old you are? Sentosa Luge is something not to be missed. Part go-cart, part-toboggan, the luge is equipped with a unique steering and braking system that lets you control the ride in an easy and leisurely way. It's safe for all ages and fun to share with friends or family. Other highlights of this little getaway island include Sentosa 4D Magix, Sentosa CineBlast and Dolphin Lagoon.
With a reputation for spoiling travelers and tourists, Singapore offers a number of conveniences that you and families should take advantage of. The Great Singapore Pass is one of them. Being the only card that will give island-wide discounts on admissions to attractions and museums, it is meant to make your visit even more fun. And how to obtain this pass? Simple. Just get into www.singapore-attractions.com and print it. When you take a tour, just show it and enjoy a 20 percent discount on total admission fees on certain attractions including Escape Theme Park, Singapore Discovery Center, Wild Wild Wet or Sentosa 4D magix. There is also a US $2 discount on each admission ticket for places such as Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, Singapore Flyer and Snow City, to mention a few. If you and your family plan to ride the Singapore Flyer, another promo is waiting from HSBC as Indonesian and Indian credit card holders are offered a 50 percent discount on tickets for adults and children until July 31 - another great deal that you shouldn't miss out on.
Whether for a holiday or any other visit, Singapore has a huge variety of entertainment centers, theme parks and playgrounds that will thrill your family and friends. So get packed to have the time of your life.
