T

ony Blair, former prime minister of the United Kingdom, will talk at the National Achievers Congress held in Malaysia from April 23 to 25.

Along with other world-class speakers like Spike Hummer and Robert G. Alan, the congress runs 12 hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Anthony Charles Lynton Blair stepped down as prime minister in June 2007 after 10 years on the job. At the same time, he also resigned from the position of Labour Party leader after being elected in 1994.

Despite the events leading up to his resignation, including the mounting British casualties of the Iraq War, he made some major decisions in his time, including the allocation

100 million for green policies in 2001, urging environmentalists and businesses to work together.

Soon after his resignation, he was officially named the Middle East envoy to work on behalf of the United Nations, the European Union, the US and Russia. He announced a new plan for peace and for Palestinian rights in May 2008, an idea based heavily on the Peace Valley plan. He established the Tony Blair Sports Foundation on Nov. 14, 2007, aiming at increasing the "childhood participation in sport activities and to promote overall health and prevent childhood obesity".

On May 30, 2008, he set up the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, which is dedicated to encouraging different faiths to join together in promoting respect and understanding, as well as working to tackle poverty.

His proposal for a charity initiative called the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative was accepted in November 2009, while in May 2009 he was awarded the Dan David Prize by Tel Aviv University for "exceptional leadership and steadfast determination in helping to engineer agreements and forge lasting solutions to areas in conflict".

He has written eight books on contemporary politics, and his memoirs, titled The Journey, will be published in September 2010.

This week's Leading the Future talk will discuss the rising demands of business growth as a result of economic recovery. Judging by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's groundbreaking book titled Flow, the seminar will touch on good business and how business leaders, managers and even employees can find their "flow" and contribute not only to their own happiness, but also to a just and evolving society.

It's a must-attend event for businesspeople and those looking to get inside the minds of today's leaders and experts. In addition, as the promoter puts it, this will be the first and the last time Tony Blair will talk publicly in KL.

Tickets are priced at RM 650 (US$205), while bookings can be made by calling Jian Lim at +60176625674.
