AKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the International Youth Forum on Climate Change held by the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) in association with the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) from Feb. 23 to 28.
KNPI chairman Ahmad Doli Kurniawan said 214 participants representing 42 countries would attend the event at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, Central Jakarta, in addition to NGOs and young environmental activists.
“The event is the young people’s contribution to [supporting] the government in tackling climate change, which is an increasing threat to the world’s future,” he was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com.
It was important that the President opened the event to demonstrate the government’s concern for climate change issues, he added.
“Later during the conference, a global youth resolution towards climate change [will be made],” he said. — JP
