View all search resultsIndonesia has reaffirmed its support for Qatar and called for diplomatic efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on a two-state solution.
resident Prabowo Subianto left Jakarta for Doha on Friday morning to meet Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani after an Israeli attack on the country’s capital earlier this week.
In its attempts to kill Hamas political leaders and members of their negotiation team, Israel launched a strike on Doha on Tuesday, escalating military tension in the Middle East. The attack is widely condemned around the world and considered an act against the principles of international law.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who is accompanying the President on the Doha trip, confirmed the visit. He said the trip is to show Indonesia’s solidarity and support toward the Qatari government and its people.
“President Prabowo flied to Doha to meet directly with the Qatari Emir on [Friday] afternoon, local time,” he told reporters in a statement.
The President left Doha directly after the two-hour private meeting with the Qatari emir.

Prabowo called the Qatari leader on Wednesday, asking about the latest situation in Doha, and had planned to visit immediately. But the plan was delayed due to the heightened political situation in Indonesia after weeklong protests and riots that killed at least 10 people.
