URABAYA: Antinarcotics officers at Surabaya’s Juanda International Airport announced the arrest of an 18-year-old Malaysian national for allegedly smuggling 700 grams of heroin worth Rp 1.7 billion (US$199,800) in 84 capsules inside her stomach.
Airport Customs and Excise chief Buhari Sirait said Ling Shao Chi was arrestec upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur on an AirAsia flight last weekend.
“She was arrested an X-ray was conducted on the suspect who later confessed to have received Rp 2.5 million to transport the heroin,” Sirait said Friday.
He added that it took two days for officers to extract all the capsules from Ling’s stomach. The investigation later led to the arrest of 30-year-old Malaysian national Ling Jing Ying at a hotel in the Juanda area.
“Police are still investigating the role of Ling Jing Ying. The suspects have admitted they received the heroin from a Nigerian bookie, who we are seeking,” Sirait said.
