ingapore’s representatives in Indonesia held a celebration of the country’s 46th national day in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Representing multiculturalism in the country, they decorated four corners of the ballroom of the Hotel Mulia with displays of Singaporean landmarks: the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown, the Sultan Mosque in Kampung Glam, the Peranakan Shophouse in Koon Seng Road and Little India along Serangoon Road.
Members of the Singaporean community, foreign diplomats and senior Indonesian government officials attended the celebrations.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa congratulated Singapore’s government and people.
He said that in its 46 years, Singapore had seen tremendous political, economic and sociocultural growth.
“What is good for Singapore is good for Indonesia, bilateral relationships and the strengthening of ASEAN,” Marty said.
Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Ashok Mirpuri said this year’s celebrations were his sixth in Jakarta. “I’ve seen many of you join us in Singapore national day to connect and keep our relationship special. I’m very pleased that all of you can join the event,” he said. (rcf)
