AKARTA: The North Jakarta Police arrested five Malaysians for allegedly using hypnotism to steal millions.
“They were all arrested in Jl. Plumpang Semper, Koja, North Jakarta, at around 3 p.m. yesterday,” North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Andap Bhudi said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The police confiscated three watches, 50 ATM cards, three laptops, three cell phone SIM cards, 22 receipts for gold purchase, jewelry, US$70 and Rp 1.62 million in cash.
Andap said the group conducted their crimes by using fake Rolex watches. Amirudin allegedly would lure victims by offering fake Rolex watches in exchange for cash. Andap added that when Amirudin was talking to the victim about the watch, another man from the group would arrive and pretended to be interested in buying. This was when they began hypnotizing the victims and asked for their ATM cards and PIN codes, Andap said
The group reportedly conducted their crimes in Tanjung Priok, Koja, Kelapa Gading and Pademangan in North Jakarta; in Senen and Menteng in Central Jakarta and in Depok.
“We want all residents who were victims of these crimes to report,” he said.
