AKARTA: A mother in South Jakarta filed a missing person report for her 2-year old son only to find out later that the toddler was taken by his father.

The toddler, Agil Munawar, was found by police officers crying at the Tebet toll gate in South Jakarta after apparently being left alone by his father, Lutfi Sarif, 45.

Mardiana, 29, Agil’s mother, said that she and Lutfi had a big fight that ended with the latter taking his kid with him.

“He hasn’t been home for two weeks, and he doesn’t come home too often, so we fight a lot,” Mardiana told police personnel who handled the missing person report.

She said her husband drove an unlicensed taxi at the airport and often traveled to other cities.

Mardiana initially told police that her son was kidnapped by a man in a Daihatsu Xenia, but she later confessed that the man was her own husband.

Rumors about the kidnapping circulated through the police communications network and was later picked up by a BlackBerry messenger broadcast.
