AKARTA: Humanitarian movement Indonesia Mengajar (IM) continues to appeal to the public to donate children’s books as it recently packed 30,000 books ready for distribution to 134 elementary schools in 14 provinces.
“Like lamps that illuminate the darkness, books will light us as they illuminate the darkness of knowledge. The books we have collected are really important to support teaching-learning process at schools where our volunteers are teaching. Some of these books will also equip community libraries there,” IM chairman Anies Baswedan said over the weekend.
Putri Lenggo Sari, coordinator of Indonesia Menyala (Enlighten Indonesia), IM’s program to collect donated books, said that the NGO welcomed more books for donation.
“Books will never be enough for the children we serve, and therefore we always welcome donations. People can deliver the books to our office at Jl. Galuh, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta,” she said.
Last year, Indonesia Mengajar distributed 20,000 books for children nationwide.
